West Coast Reefers is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (EIN 42-4673396), recognized by the IRS effective August 24, 2026. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
West Coast Reefers educates and connects the reefkeeping community - advancing responsible marine aquarium care, coral reef conservation, and captive coral propagation through workshops, events, and shared knowledge.
West Coast Reefers is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically, it is dedicated to: (a) educating the public and hobbyists about marine and reef aquarium keeping, coral biology, and responsible fishkeeping; (b) promoting the conservation of coral reefs and marine ecosystems through education and sustainable captive coral propagation that reduces demand for wild-collected corals; and (c) supporting marine science education and conservation initiatives.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, our IRS exemption application (Form 1023-EZ) and annual returns (Form 990) are available for public inspection as required by law. To request copies of our governing documents or filings, email info@westcoastreefers.com.
West Coast Reefers is governed by a volunteer board of directors and run for the benefit of the reefkeeping community and the public - not for private gain. On dissolution, any remaining assets will be distributed to another 501(c)(3) organization, as required for our charitable status.
