What did you do to your tank today??

This is an old topic on many forums, but always a good one? Today im swapping out GFO for fresh because I am almost done with my phosphate battle. Clean the glass, feed the hungry hoard and maybe.. just maybe.. Hit up a couple LFS because the tank seems to be happy and needing some new corals!! What did YOU do?!?!

I dose polyp lab reef roids twice a week to help maintain levels while my tank is running fallow and I’m doing about 24mL of ammonium bicarbonate a day to keep nitrate around 2-4ppm. I’ve also cut back on live phyto, only feeding half my normal amount. I tested on Saturday and N was 0.3ppm and P was 0.13ppm. Clams suck up a lot of it. 😂

Maybe that is our issue. We have a huge derasa we have had for 2.5 years. That one alone is probably 7-8" end to end. We also have one derasa that is about 5", and 2 small maximas - 1 is about 4", and the other about 2". The big derasa constantly has a margin of bright white growth on the top of his shell.

Yeah, clams uptake nutrients directly from the surrounding water, so if they’re big enough or you have several, they can definitely impact your nutrient levels. If you don’t have enough fish and feed them frequently, then supplementing nitrogen and phosphorus is required.

I got a new Sicce return pump for the 120. Also got some new Phosphate reagent and a Salifert Calcium test kit because as much as I love Hanna, the Calcium test is a bear..

Welp .... I blew up my CaRx .. Just got a full CO2 tank and was hooking everything back up and had some water in the CO2 line.. CO2 didn't have enough pressure after the regulator so I had what i thought was a brilliant idea, which in hindsight, wasn't so brilliant.. I pumped some air back up the line from my air compressor to try and clear the water and BOOM!!. There went the lid to my Geo 818... Fortunately, Geo makes replacements because apparently I am not the only idiot out there .. Lesson learned and $100 lighter... Notice not only the blown out fitting, but the crack all the way across the lid....
