Yeah — the more expensive a frag is, the harder it is to keep and the slower it grows!!! Maybe that’s why it’s expensive in the first place? You’re buying time and time is precious. 😢

Also, that’s why I’ve been trying to switch to Kalk to boost pH. However, it’s been shaky for me so need to flatten out Alk with CaRx before attempting the try Kalk again. It’s super challenging altering such a big system - you’ll need a lot to move the needle!!! I’ll be curious to hear what people do to accelerate SPS growth…

Here we go — let’s hope this Queen can adapt to the new world. She is already bossing the King but succumbed to the fact that the 10”+ French is really the supreme ruler. Fingers & fins crossed. 🤞

Good news: almost all my aiptasias in the frag tank are gone! The Regal Angel apparently loves sponges, aiptasias, and zoas… and that’s the bad news! 😁 I got bored of zoas so not a big deal but … need to do something and soon.

Just some perspective on how fast a sulfur denitrator can drop Nitrate in a large tank with a bioload for 50+ fish. I’ve accidentally reduced it too fast and went from 17ppm to 2ppm. Our goal is to keep things under 10ppm at all times.

Just in case you’re wondering if a Regal Angel is “reef safe”….

lol - too late, baby Regals are now influenced by social media and peer pressure. They eat what others eat…sad but true.

The 6” Regal ate half the zoas so releasing her to the wild next door join her friends. It’s the same water so just need to figure out compatibility challenges. I’m hopping to release by tonight when lights go out. So far, no crazy Kamikaze angels going straight to the isolation box. The French Angel grew fast - he’s already 8”+.

So… the dangerous decision ahead. I caught the 6” Blue and he’s been in the sump the last 3 months. Since then, I’ve added a bigger Queen. Should I add the Blue back in? It’s the same-genus as the Queen so definitely very risky. What do you guys think?

Update - the Regal release didn’t go well. It was getting beat up by the Passer so she’s swimming at the top. It was an easy rescue back to her old home. I’ll move all the zoas always then.

Good news - the Regal is alive and eating in the frag tank. She’s an inch longer than the Passer, but apparently it’s not enough. Guess I’ll be rehoming all the zoas to the 150gal cube then.

Dang it — my salinity probe was out of whack! It was showing me 35ppt but I was running at 33ppt this whole time. I’ve slowly increased salinity to 35ppt actual and recalibrated from 37 to 35. Hope this will make my corals happier.
